Weapons
Italian Long Sword
The most popular weapon in HEMA, the long sword is 3 weapons in one. When wielded by a knowledgeable fencer it is a sword, dagger, and a mace. Our system is based on the 15th century treatises of Fiore Di Liberi and Fillipo Vadi.
German Long Sword
The dueling arts of the late 15th and 16th century are what the German style of long sword focuses on. Based on the fencing manuals of Joachim Meyer, these lessons explore the the fast and aggressive dueling arts.
Side Sword
The Side Sword is a cut and thrust weapon that is like a transition between long sword and rapier. The single handed sword style can be applied to messer, traditional side swords and basket hilted swords.
Great Sword
The outcome of the long sword evolution, known as a zweihander, montante and spadone, the sword is infamous for it's use by the Landsknecht of the 16th century to knock aside pikes and basically wreck anyone with a weapon shorter than theirs.
Rondel
The 15th century rondel was a weapon used for puncturing thick cloth and is wielded like an ice pick. Our rondel classes are a combination of strikes and disarms with this weapon.
Bowie Knife
The Bowie Knife is iconic of the American Frontier. Made infamous by James Bowie’s Sandbar Duel in Louisiana, it used by frontiersman, 49ers, and soldiers of 19th century. Our Bowie Knife class is based on Dwight McLemore’s big knife fighting system.
Spear
One of the oldest and widely used weapons known to man, we use the 15th century Italian treatises for our spear work.
Rapier
The Rapier, with it's long, narrow blade, was designed primarily as a thrusting weapon. Used throughout the 16th and 17th centuries there were multiple schools for training with it. Off hand weapons, ranging from a dagger to a cloak, were often practiced. It is an iconic sword associated with numerous heroes and villains in history and pop culture.
